A29 BC Part 5

There were two more speakers on Wednesday, however, my brain was fried by the final speaker so Scott Thomas was the last one with whom I took notes.  Scott Thomas is the president and director of the Acts 29 Network.  He also presented his latest book Gospel Coach.  If you’re interested in learning about coaching people through the gospel this is a great resource to look into.  “‘Gospel Coach’ materials are designed to give Christian leaders a practical system to develop and equip other leaders in the local church and to shepherd them to glorify God. While it is for leaders, it can be used to shepherd believers of all stages of their life, maturity, age, and gender. This site is a tool to support the principle plans established in the ‘Gospel Coach’ book.”

My primary take away from this talk was that mission needs to have intention and movement.  If you have no intention you have no direction and no focus.  He spoke of the the need of movement.  If you are on a mission and there is no movement to you then you must ask yourself, what is the purpose?  You most likely have none.

The whole boot camp was a great resource.  I went into the training knowing that we needed direction for the next phase of our lives.  What we got was training on how to find purpose and direction and focus so that we could move forward with confidence.  We believe God has asked us to reach out to people and we now know some specifics of what that looks like.  It isn’t going to be easy.  Having purpose and focus helps us to head in a direction that will help us achieve those goals we feel God has set before us.  I think the primary issue at this point is, there are so many distractions.  It would be so easy to start to dedicate time to the distractions and forget what our purpose is.

I remember a verse that i read and reread as a young girl.  I believed it was a promise to me.  I now believe it is a part of the purpose we have as a family.

1The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;

2to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn;

3to grant to those who mourn in Zion—to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit; that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he may be glorified.

4They shall build up the ancient ruins;
they shall raise up the former devastations; they shall repair the ruined cities, the devastations of many generations.
